Is There Ever Really...
New York City. A place where hopes and dreams come true, a city where great things happen. Many visitors think only of the good things that New York has to offer, but those who live there know the other side of this wonderful world. Where looks, beauty and individualism is the only way to be accepted. Wiithout one of these three gifts you are nothing, a nobody to the higher, rich people of New York. In New York City Private School, the rules are the same. For the rich and popular kids, high school is a breeze. You're looked up to, looked after, and pampered. For those that aren't so lucky, your high school lives will be a real battle. Nobody wants to be a nobody, everyone wants to be something. The students at the top of the social ladder must fight to stay in that spot, while those at the bottom must fight even harder to make it to the top. But only a chosen few each year can rise up on the slippery social ladder and become someone. They must prove themselves, and earn their place.
Growing up in the Upper East Side of New York City are the leading ladies of NYC Private School. The last name of 'Monreaux' is legendary to this school, and this city. Kaelyn Monreaux, the 'leader' of the five had proven herself worthy enough to earn her own title. She's following in the footsteps of her older brother Dylan Monreaux, who is now a senior in High School and also at the very top of the scene. The two determined siblings are living up their name and carrying on the legend while at the same time teaching their youngest sister Meagan the rules to rule the school.
At a very young age, Kaelyn met four girls her age. The five girls were best of friends. They spent every waking hour together, and as they grew older, their friendship got stronger. So together, Kaelyn Monreaux, Jasmine Roberts, Brooklyn Stanislaski, Ashlee Brackstine, and Laya Dorniky are the most popular, and rich girls of New York City Private School. And as there are the popular girls, there are the wealthy boys. Evan Rochester, Dylan Monreaux, Darren Dorniky, Danny Marlo, and Shane Samson. Each summer these ten teenagers go on a well deserved vacation. Where they go has always been kept a secret that only the "A-List", as they call themselves, know. These ten have known eachother since childhood, but when they hit their teenage years, other feelings were introduced.
On comes the underdogs, the nobody's. Born into underprivaliged families make up about twenty percent of the students in NYC PS. Now many unwealthy students can afford to go to such a prestigious school, but those families that could, or had brainiac children, lept at the chance. Mercedes and Blake Jenson are two of the few underclass students in high school. They are brother and sister, yet complete opposites. Blake, the older brother, had never wanted to be popular. He hated all of the "A-List", except for Maegan Monreaux. She was beautiful, prettier than Kaelyn in his eyes, and he had hope to change to girl before she was sucked in by her siblings. All the while, his little sister Mercedes adored all of the A-List. She wanted to be just like them, wanted to one day be accepted into the cool group. And she'd do anything..
But just recently there's been a terrible tragedy in this so-called perfect life of the rich and popular. Darren Dorniky was killed in a drive-by shooting. He'd always been the joker of the group, the one that would lighten the mood. The one least likely to have any enemies, or at least have anyone want to kill him. Despite his popularity and gorgeous looks, he never treated anyone differently. He was always the kind one. The death of Darren is tearing the group apart. Laya's an emotional wreck, slowly slipping into a state of depression, and everyone else is stunned and griek-stricken. The shock of this event has definately hit not only the A-List, but the entire community as well. The few that are trying to hold the group together are doing their best under circumstances, for they too are mourning the death of their friend.
For those of you who are not fortunate enough to be in with the A-List, you can simply only dream about it, unless of course you happen to get on their good side and make it to the top. Even through all the competition to do so and the impossibility of it all, teenagers all over New York City still try their hardest. After all, there always is one extra person added each year.
Kaelyn Monreaux, Brooklyn Stanislaski, Danny Marlo, Jasmine Roberts, Evan Rochester, Ashlee Brackstine, Dylan Monreaux, Laya Dorniky, Shane Samson, and the soon to be Meagan Monreaux. They've set tough, high standards to live up to. Remember their names, fear their names, admire their names. They will surely live on.
